Blood Icicle

Performance, Sculpture

Blood Icicle,
menstrual blood harvested from artist,
63x11x7.6cm / 24.8x4.3x3in,
2024.

From June 2023-June 2024, I saved my menstrual blood. Inspired by the harsh Midwest winters-witnessing icicles the height of houses, hanging from roofs like perilous fish bones, they contained a type of dangerous beauty.

18 fluid ounces of menstrual blood was shaped into an icicle and displayed in a freezer, Iowa City, 2024.

Icicles which accompanied Blood Icicle

Showcased at the Dodge Street Gallery, below are icicles made out of staghorn sumac tea, collected rainwater, paper mache and bread. Viewers were invited to open the freezer to view the work.
