Self Portrait as Egg
cotton recycled fabric, grandmother’s jumper, linen napkin, porcelain doll, thread
173x54cm / 68x21in
2023

Hand and machine sewn soft sculpture. This self-portrait is showcasing the artist as an egg in her mother’s ovaries (in fetus form), in her grandmother’s womb. This matryoshka doll imagery is based on how each female fetus develops all the eggs she will ever have while she is still in her mother’s womb. One’s mother’s ovaries, which are formed in her mother’s womb, contain the eggs that could potentially become you.
